About Palani
Nestled midway between the cities of Coimbatore and Madurai, the picturesque town of Palani unveils its charm. Adorned by two majestic hills, namely Sivagiri and Sakthigiri, this hilly landscape creates a striking visual spectacle. Palani is also blessed with numerous lakes that gracefully flow into the Shanmuga River at the base of these hills.
The name “Palani” is derived from the Tamil words “Pazham” meaning “fruit” and “You.” It signifies the amalgamation of these words, emphasizing the town’s significance. Palani is renowned for its grand temple dedicated to Lord Murugan, also known as “Kartikeya.” Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is believed to have chosen this sacred land as his abode after departing from Mount Kailash to embrace the life of an ascetic.
